SHARON ROLANDER

Sharon Ann (Wendorff) Rolander, 79, passed away at Sienna Meadows Memory Care in Oregon, Wis., on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the first full day of summer. She was born on April 9, 1946, in Hutchinson to Ernest and Hazel (Schmidt) Wendorff and was raised on the family farm west of Hutchinson that she loved so much. Sharon attended country school in Miss Weislow’s class as well as Hutchinson High School.
Sharon lived in Hutchinson most of her life, but she also lived for a time in Coon Rapids and Arden Hills. She moved to Wisconsin in 2018 to be closer to her daughter Susan and son-in-law Joe so she could receive the family support and expert care that she needed.
Sharon’s work life included various positions in manufacturing and retail. In the 1980s, she volunteered at Gibbs Farm Museum in Falcon Heights and enjoyed reconnecting with farm life again. Later, she took so much pride in working as the office manager at Hutch Hearing Aid and loved “her” patients until the day she retired in 2012.
She adored her brothers and sister and had very special and close relationships with her nieces and nephews. She left no one or nothing behind … taking in wayward animals (pets, farm, wildlife) and kids who needed a safe place to land for a while. Many of her daughter’s friends even called her “Ma”.
Everyone was loved in Sharon’s world … except snakes! She never hesitated to help someone in need – she even bottle-fed lambs in her laundry room, handraised many litters of kittens, tended to a young robin, raised monarch caterpillars, and so on.
Sharon had a smile that lit up a room and had countless stories and humorous “mom-isms” that made everyone smile and laugh and feel good, even if she had just met them. Sharon had a great love of gardening and took pride in her flowers. She had a flair for holiday decorating and floral design. She believed in the magic of Christmas and her house always looked and smelled wonderful during the holidays.
Sharon is survived by her only daughter Susan, whom she cherished, and beloved son-in-law Joe Lawniczak (Evansville, Wis.); former husband Greg Rolander (Brownton); brother Lyle and sister-in-law Cheryl Wendorff (Litchfield); sister-in-law Donna Wendorff (Hutchinson); many nieces and nephews and their families.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Hazel (Schmidt) Wendorff; former mother-in-law Lida (Heller) Rolander; brother Norman Wendorff; sister Lorraine and brother-in-law Al Jorgensen; nephew Richard Jorgensen; former brother-in-law Robert Rolander; and former sister-in-law Joan Rolander.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at Sienna Meadows Memory Care for their excellent care and to Agrace Hospice for their compassion and guidance.
Visitation will be from 1 – 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1040 S Grade Rd SW, Hutchinson, MN 55350, with a memorial service to follow at 2:30 p.m. Sharon will be brought to her final place of rest in a private service at Oakland Cemetery in Hutchinson.
