Glastonbury Festival will not take place in 2026, as organisers confirm a planned fallow year to give Worthy Farm and the surrounding environment time to recover.
The iconic event, held annually on a working dairy farm in Pilton, Somerset, will take a break to allow the land to regenerate, protect soil quality and give local wildlife and the community a much-needed rest. Co-organiser Emily Eavis described the pause as "essential", both for environmental sustainability and the long-term health of the festival grounds.
"The fallow year is important because it gives the land a rest, it gives the cows a chance to be out for longer and reclaim their land," Eavis said, emphasising Glastonbury's roots in traditional farming practices. "Sustainability and the need to live in harmony with the land has always been vital to Glastonbury Festival."
She said: "(It will) give the land a rest. The festival before a fallow year is always a fun one to plan, because you almost have to fit two years into one. We're already in talks with some acts for it. It's exciting!"
Glastonbury typically observes a fallow year every five years, though the cycle was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced cancellations in 2020 and 2021. The last planned fallow year was in 2018.
In recent years, organisers have ramped up their eco-conscious efforts, including the widely supported 'Love the Farm, Leave No Trace' campaign and a total ban on single-use plastics, flares, glass and other environmentally harmful items. "We are striving to leave as little an imprint on the land here as we possibly can," added founder Michael Eavis.
As for the next one - Glastonbury 2027 - tickets will likely go live in October or November 2026 with a resale in April 2027, and the lineup will be announced likely in early June.
