At 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, Eric Nelson will present a program to the Learning Club at the Winona County History Center about his bird-watching safari in Tanzania. Eric writes, “I was lucky enough to spend 10 days on a birding safari in Tanzania, East Africa, in May 2024, accompanied by five others. We saw many new bird species we had never seen before. Highlights were secretary birds, bee-eaters, five species of hornbills, and whydahs. The mammals were spectacular as well, including five species of cats. Viewing was up close, bumping along in Land Cruisers through the Serengeti, with visits to Lake Victoria and Olduvai Gorge. Lodging was in comfortable tent camps, amid landscapes that support hippos, zebras, lions and much more.”
Eric worked 30 years as a wildlife biologist for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, from which he retired in 2020 after 20 years on the Mississippi River. The public is warmly invited to attend.
