Alaska State Senator Lyman Hoffman

A major chapter in Alaska politics is coming to a close. The longest-serving state legislator in Alaska’s history has announced his retirement.

According to the Alaska Beacon, Senator Lyman Hoffman says his current term will be his last. The Democrat from Bethel will not seek reelection in 2026.

Hoffman was first elected to the State House in 1986 and has served in the State Senate since the 1990s.

His decision marks the end of nearly four decades of public service, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most enduring figures in Alaska's political landscape.
