Within the framework of the development of international transport corridors, Turkmenistan and Russia considered the development of new routes, including the direction through Turkmenistan to China and other countries. This became known following the meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
During the negotiations between Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguly Atagulyev and Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin, special attention was paid to the transport and logistics sector.
Among the promising projects, the parties highlighted the construction of the Volga-Caspian Canal with access to the port of Turkmenbashy, as well as the development of the “Eastern Bypass of the Caspian Sea” route within the framework of the international transport corridor “North-South”.
The meeting also discussed cooperation in the fields of industry, energy, agriculture, culture and education. The importance of reviving the tradition of holding cultural exchange events between the two countries was particularly noted.
