A cyclist is taking on a gruelling 1,100-mile journey across Europe as part of a 16-day charity challenge.

Lawrence “O.B.” O’Brien, from Norwich, will travel through three countries to reach two of the world’s biggest heavy metal festivals - Wacken Open Air in Germany and Bloodstock Open Air in Derby - before returning home, all to raise funds for the Wacken Foundation.

The foundation supports disabled people by helping them access and enjoy music.

The challenge, called Pedal 2 The Metal, will see the cyclist carry all supplies on their bike, camping along the way and buying food as needed.

Last year, the same challenge raised £1,500 for the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

This year, Mr O’Brien will be supported by a friend on a motorbike.

He said: "With any kind of fundraising event, getting the word out to people is probably the hardest part."

Pedal 2 the Metal is an annual 1,100-mile charity bike ride to Wacken Open Air and Bloodstock Festival with the goal of raising money for various charity organisations.
