Liverpool city centre will come to life next weekend as thousands of festival goers visit the Pier Head for On The Waterfront. The annual music festival will take place from Thursday, June 19 until Sunday, June 22.

On The Waterfront has become a highly anticipated event in Liverpool's music calendar. A range of exciting headliners have taken to the stage in recent years including Deacon Blue and Jamie Webster.

Liverpool has positioned itself as the UK's music capital so it's no surprise to hear our summer is filled with it. Some of the biggest names in the industry are flying in to deliver what will no doubt be unforgettable performances, rocking alongside some of our very own homegrown talent.

Indie band The Wombats kick off the festival on Thursday for their biggest ever hometown show. The Wombats met as teenagers while studying at Liverpool Institute of Performing Art.

The band formed in 2003 and became known on the indie rock scene with 2007 debut 'A Guide to Love, Loss and Desperation' featuring hit singles 'Let’s Dance to Joy Division', 'Moving to New York' and 'Kill the Director’.

Their 2011 second album 'This Modern Glitch' established them as Top 10 chart regulars, while 2015’s 'Glitterbug' connected with a new generation of fans, especially through TikTok where 'Greek Tragedy' became a viral hit.

By 2018, with the release of 'Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life', The Wombats were soon playing arenas and in 2022 scored their first Number 1 album 'Fix Yourself, Not the World'.

Despite their two-decade long career, their music continues to resonate with both loyal and younger audiences, proving their staying power.

Legendary Irish band The Wolfe Tones will takeover on Friday, June 20. They have enjoyed more than 50 years performing together, kicking off their careers in the 1960s, playing sold-out shows across the world with tracks including Celtic Symphony and Let the People Sing.

Cream Classical Ibiza is set to arrive on on Saturday, joined by a 50 piece kaleidoscopic orchestra of performers and vocalists to deliver an incredible dance version of the biggest tracks from Cream's longstanding residency in Ibiza.

Also included on the line-up is a DJ set from renowned electronic music duo, Groove Armada. Other incredible DJs on the bill include Todd Terry, Chicane, Danny Rampling, Seb Fontaine, Tall Paul, Sean Hughes and Rob Harnetty.

Closing the festival on Sunday is former The Police frontman and solo legend Sting. The singer will play a selection of his biggest hits alongside guitarist and long-time collaborator, Dominic Miller and drummer Chris Maas.

The festival attracts thousands of people into the city every year, and last year 45,000 people were in attendance across the four-day outdoor music festival. Expect another fun-filled weekend across Liverpool.
