The Red Arrows performed a special flyover at St David's College in Llandudno last Friday (June 6).

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team had been staying at RAF Valley on Anglesey and were due to fly to Scotland on Friday.

On route to their destination, they made a quick trip past St David's, much to the delight of students and staff.

St David's Headteacher, Andrew Russell, said: “To see the Red Arrows is always special, but to see them flying in their classic formation right over St David's College was a huge moment of excitement for all our pupils and staff.

"It's the 60th anniversary of both the Red Arrows and St David's College this year, so it was extra poignant.

"A massive thanks to them for going out of their way to make this such a momentous occasion.”

St David's Headboy helps organise Red Arrows flyover

St David's has Headboy Oliver Andrew to thank for the Red Arrows flyover.

Last June, Oliver was lucky enough to spend the day with the Red Arrows at their base at RAF Waddington, located in Lincolnshire.

During their chat, he heard the pilot mention it was the Red Arrows' 60th anniversary in 2025, just like St David's.

So last week, true to their word, the Red Arrows informed St David's they were at RAF Valley and would be happy to do a detour on their way to Scotland to perform a special flyover.

“Luckily, they were scheduled to do a display at the Isle of Man TT races and their departure from RAF Valley the following morning gave us the opportunity to experience a wonderful 60th Anniversary event," Oliver added.

"I am so thankful to the whole of the Red Arrows team for creating such a wonderful memory."

Where else to see the Red Arrows in Wales this year

The Red Arrows will conduct flybys at several major events across the UK in 2025, including the King's Birthday celebrations in London, the F1 Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

The Royal Air Force Aerobatic Team will also perform aerobatic shows at the likes of the Royal International Air Tattoo and Midlands Airshow.

The team will also venture overseas for several events, visiting locations including Greece, Belgium, Spain and the Czech Republic.

But the Red Arrows 2025 schedule only includes one performance in Wales, at the Wales Airshow in Swansea.

This year's event will be held on July 5 and 6, with the Red Arrows set to put on an aerobatic show for crowds on both days.
