A team made up of some of Bermuda’s best women’s golfers have made a fine start to a prestigious tournament in Puerto Rico.

More than 100 amateur golfers are participating in the 45th annual Kitty Michael Golf Invitational, a team event for women from Central America, North America and the Caribbean.

Teams from Panama, St Croix, Curacao, Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Montreal, Toronto, Florida and New Jersey are competing at El Conquistador golf club from June 9 to 13 and the island’s representatives have made a great start.

After the first day of competition, Bermuda sit second in the team gross competition, three shots off leaders Southwest Florida, while Tracy Burgess is tied for first in the individual gross competition at 9 over.

The Bermuda team is made up of captain Linda Down, vice-captain Burgess, Katrin Burnie, Liz Carpio, Carine Brule Valerie Nearon, Angela Cook, Katyna Rabain, Lesley Wollmann and Tracy Nash.

The Kitty Michael Invitational was launched in 1979 as a means of growing the women’s game, forging international friendships and competition and fostering goodwill.
