When I was a kid, I wanted to … do something in the realm of sports. Sports have long been a part of my life. Whether playing them, following them or talking about them, it’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.
What would you rather be doing right now? It’s been quite a while since I’ve been to a beach on vacation. So I’d say relaxing on a beach with my family sounds pretty nice right about now.
Shhhhhh! Don't tell anyone that … My wife may be the only one that knows this, but I hate scary movies! Flat out refuse to watch them!
Other than your wedding day and/or the birth of your children, what was your proudest moment? Getting baptized in June 2019 and surrendering my life to Jesus. Hands down the greatest decision of my life.
It really stinks when … I let my OCD get the best of me and have to redo things “my way.” It’s a work in progress.
What word in the dictionary would your face be next to? Soulful.
I always laugh when … between my kids and a good episode of “The Office,” those are the things that get me going the most.
Invite any three people, living or dead, to dinner. Who are they? Jesus, because He saved my life and has blessed me far beyond anything I could’ve ever thought, dreamed or imagined. Michael Jordan, because he has long been my favorite athlete of all time. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. He was my “Michael Jordan” of wrestling back in the day, as I was a huge fan. But it’s been his career after wrestling that has inspired me even more.
At the end of a really long day at work, I like to … spend quality, uninterrupted time with my family. We are in such a busy season of life right now that those times are often few and far between. Getting to just unplug, not stress about things and spend time with them really means a lot to me.
People who knew me in high school thought I was … pretty chill and easygoing for the most part. I didn’t do much other than go to school, run track and spend time with friends.
My most unforgettable brush with greatness was … getting to spend the weekend with Marty York, “Yeah Yeah” from “The Sandlot.” I absolutely loved and idolized this movie growing up as a kid. It’s still my favorite movie to this day. What started as a cool opportunity to bring a celebrity to Quincy for a Gems game turned into me getting to spend a weekend with him in which it seemed like we had been friends for years.
I would drop all my plans tonight if I had the chance to … baptize a friend or family member. Jesus saved my life, and I have made it my mission to make Him known and spread the Good news to those around me. If someone were to call me up and say they found what I have found and wanted to be baptized, I’d be there in a heartbeat!
If someone gave me a million dollars, there is STILL no way I would … do anything shameful to hurt the integrity of me or my family.
America should be more concerned about … faith and family. These are the pillar and foundation of our lives. Think about it. When you’re on your deathbed, only two things are going to matter – whether or not your family is by your side and whether or not you have a relationship with Jesus, because where you will spend eternity depends on it. Our bank account, social media followers or job title won’t matter.
I'm OK if there's ever a national shortage of … hats. I’ve built up quite the collection over the years.
When I'm on the Internet, I always go to … Between Facebook and ESPN, I’d say it’s a tie. I love keeping up with friends and family on social media to see what everyone’s up to. Being that life is crazy busy, I don’t always get the opportunity to spend time with them, so it’s nice to have a platform that allows me to keep up with them and what’s going on in their lives. ESPN is a frequent (choice) of mine as well, as my love and passion for sports still very much exists.
What is the most useful piece of advice you have ever received? “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.” – Jesus (Matthew 6:33)
When I'm cruising down the road, I'm likely listening to … WGCA, KLove or my Jesus Jams playlist I created via Spotify.
I always get sentimental when … seeing the results of my family’s hard work pay off. It’s pretty special when you see the fruits of their labor come together and witness the culmination of it all.
The older I get, the more I realize … how important faith, family and relationships are. Somewhere along the way, you get caught up in the craziness of life and lose sight of that.
If I had one "do-over," … coming to Jesus earlier in life would definitely be something I’d like to do over. There’s a very popular Christian song out right now by Forrest Frank called “You Way’s Better,” and in it there’s a line that goes “I searched the world till my head hurt, just to find out your way is better.” I cannot tell you how accurate of a statement that is as it pertains to my life. I searched and searched all that this world had to offer, but I continually came up empty. Knowing I won’t necessarily get a ‘do-over,” it’s my mission to help others realize that what you want can’t be found in the world. I only can be found in Jesus.
My favorite item of clothing is … my Christian T-shirt collection. I love being able to wear something that spreads the Good News!
If I've learned anything at all … it’s that we’re all on a desperate quest in life. We all have a “God-sized hole” in our heart, and we look to fill it with everything but God. Whether it be lust, drugs, alcohol, social status, followers on social media, validation from people or anything else, we are attempting to put a square peg in a round hole. I know because I tried the same thing. When you finally become exhausted from searching, get to the end of yourself and surrender, that is when you will find all you’ve ever been looking for and His name is Jesus. I’m not saying this as someone who grew up in the church and had a lifelong faith. I ‘m saying this as someone who went through life for 30 years trying to do it on my own and trying to fill the voids in my heart with things other than Jesus. It was only when I realized I can’t do this on my own, that I let Jesus in and He completely transformed my life. The quest ends and new life begins when you turn your life over to Him.
