Palestine also entered Asian World Cup qualifying in the second round and advanced to second place in their group, finishing only behind Australia having earned eight points from their six matches.

However, they looked virtually out of contention in the third round of Group B, with only three points with three matches remaining after four defeats and three draws, losing 3-1 away to Jordan in their return to action in March.

However, the Palestinians kept their hopes alive in the final match, hosting Iraq and prevailing with a 2-1 victory thanks to a late comeback when Wessam Abou Ali equalized in the 88th minute and Ameed Mahajneh scored the winner in stoppage time.

They entered qualifying in the second round and advanced through their group in second place, earning seven points from their six games to book a place in the third round of Group B.

However, Kuwait now find themselves on the brink of being out of contention, as they currently sit bottom of the group having earned just five points from eight games, although they only lost three of them and failed to pick up a single win, most recently earning just one point from two outings in March.

Now five points behind fourth place in the group, the last place that grants access to the fourth qualifying round, with six to play for, Kuwait goes into Thursday's match needing a win to have a chance of taking their bid to the final day next week.
