Holiday home hell as rotting corpses with 'signs of violence' found on island Jay Slater died
The incident took place in a tourist hotspot, and local police have launched a murder investigation after 'a violent incident' was deemed to have taken place in the sunny town.
A murder investigation has been launched after the bodies of a man and woman were discovered with signs of violence in an apartment at the Caledonia Park complex in Costa Adeje, a tourist hotspot in southern Tenerife frequented by Brits.
The grim find was made on Friday afternoon (May 23) in San Eugenio Alto, near the popular Aqualand water park, as reported by local news site Canarian Weekly.
Both bodies are believed to have been in a late stage of decomposition, with locals initially alerting police due to a foul smell.
Spanish police have cordoned off the scene as forensic teams and detectives from the Judicial Police Brigade of South Tenerife, alongside the Homicide Unit of the Provincial Police, are working to discover the cause of the grisly deaths.
The victims, believed to be a couple of undisclosed nationality, were found in one of the apartment’s bedrooms.
Their identities and nationalities remain officially undisclosed as investigations continue.
Early evidence points to a “violent incident,” but no arrests have been made, and any motive is still unknown.
Local sources claim detectives are exploring various scenarios, including a possible settling of scores, though nothing has been confirmed, it has been reported.
The case is under a judicial secrecy order, with authorities tight-lipped as they hunt for those responsible in this shocking double death at the heart of Tenerife’s tourist haven.
The victim's bodies have been transfered to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. No arrests have been made.
The shocking discovery is not the first time the island of Tenerife has been the subject of UK headlines, following the disappearance of British teen Jay Slater on the island last year. Slater, aged 19, went missing in June of 2024 while attempting 14-mile walk the morning after attending a music festival.
After weeks of searching for the Lancashire-born teen, a body was discovered the following month and was subsequently confirmed to be his.
Coroners concluded Slater died of traumatic head injuries, consistent with a fall from height.
