WITH SOUNDS OF SAXOPHONES, HORNS, AND SKILLED SINGERS THIS WEEKEND. IT’S THE DEBUT OF A BRAND NEW EVENT, BRINGING JAZZ BACK TO THE OLD SACRAMENTO WATERFRONT. IT IS THE INAUGURAL CAPITAL CITY JAZZ FESTIVAL AND JOINING US IN STUDIO THIS MORNING IS HARLEY WHITE JUNIOR, ONE OF THE PERFORMERS IN THIS FESTIVAL. THANK YOU FOR JOINING US THIS MORNING. TELL US WHAT YOU’RE SO EXCITED ABOUT. THIS FESTIVAL BRINGING TO THE OLD SACRAMENTO WATERFRONT THIS WEEKEND. I’M EXCITED ABOUT PEOPLE COMING TO SACRAMENTO AND ENJOYING. A AMBIANCE. I’M GOING TO SAY SOMETHING. YES, BEAUTIFUL RIVER WEATHER AND THE FACT THAT WE CAN HAVE OUTDOOR MUSIC FESTIVALS IS REALLY UNIQUE. AND YOU MENTIONED THAT REALLY THIS LOCATION IS A WONDERFUL SPOT FOR JAZZ FESTIVAL, RIGHT? WELL, I MEAN, OKAY, WE HAVE MORE SUNSHINE PER CAPITA THAN ANY CITY IN THE WORLD. I DON’T KNOW IF PEOPLE KNOW THAT. I MEAN, WE HAVE THE SUN SHINES ON SACRAMENTO THAT MUCH. SO I’VE TOURED THE WORLD AND LIKE EUROPEAN FESTIVALS, THEY HAVE A TWO MONTH WINDOW WHERE THE WEATHER IS EVEN BEARABLE, TO EVEN HAVE A MUSIC FESTIVAL OUTSIDE. I’VE EVEN PLAYED FESTIVALS IN BELGIUM IN THE RAIN. AND THIS WEEKEND, REALLY, WE ALREADY HAVE GOOD WEATHER COMING INTO IT. EVEN IF IT WERE GOING TO BE WARMER, WE’RE STILL TALKING ABOUT MANAGEABLE. YES, SO AND SO. HAVING A FESTIVAL AND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THAT AND BEING RIGHT NEXT TO THE BAY AREA, RIGHT NEXT TO THE TAHOE, IT’S KIND OF AN IDEA WHOSE TIME HAD COME AND WENT AWAY. AND NOW IT’S BACK. YEAH. AND TALK ABOUT THAT, IF YOU WOULD. YOU’RE HAPPY TO SEE A JAZZ FESTIVAL COME BACK FOR SURE. WHAT IS SO IMPORTANT ABOUT BRINGING THIS TYPE OF CULTURAL EVENT TO OUR CITY? OH, WOW. THERE’S LOTS OF LEVELS, OKAY? IT’S JUST BUSINESS. I MEAN, WE USED TO HAVE 200,000 PEOPLE COMING TO SACRAMENTO FOR THE DIXIELAND JUBILEE. THEY HAD SOME MISGIVINGS AND REBRANDING AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS, AND IT WENT AWAY. AND SO JUST FOR THE BUSINESS ASPECT OF TOURISM, IT’S NICE TO HAVE THAT. BUT WHAT I’M FINDING WHILE WORKING WITH THE SACRAMENTO HISTORY MUSEUM IS SACRAMENTO HAS A VERY UNIQUE JAZZ STORY OF ITS OWN. YEAH. AND SO WHEN WE HAVE THESE JAZZ FESTIVALS, WE HAVE A CHANCE TO REALLY SHOWCASE WHAT’S UNIQUE ABOUT OUR CITY. AND AND I’LL BE REALLY CLEAR ABOUT THIS. I WENT TO KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL AND WE HAD A VERY FINE MUSIC PROGRAM. AND SO. SO MUCH OF WHAT I DO IS BECAUSE OF ALL THE FINE PEOPLE OF SACRAMENTO SUPPORTING MUSIC. OH, THAT’S BEAUTIFUL. AND SPEAKING OF YOUR MUSIC, I DON’T WANT TO LET YOU GO WITHOUT A LITTLE PROMOTION OF YOUR ALBUM. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS REAL QUICK? THIS IS MY ALBUM, INDEPENDENT ALBUM CUPCAKE WITH NINE PIECE BAND, MOSTLY SACRAMENTO MUSICIANS. ALL THE COMPOSITIONS ARE WRITTEN AND ARRANGED BY US AND YOU CAN BUY IT AT DELTA BREEZE RECORDS DOWN THERE ON 10TH STREET. I FORGET THE STREET ADDRESS, BUT DELTA BREEZE SUPPORTING LOCAL. OH NO, THAT’S NOT ONLY A MUSICIAN, BUT THE OH YES, THE RECORD SHOP TOO. AND LIKE THE FESTIVAL IS SUPPORTING LOCAL ALL GOOD THINGS. AND SPEAKING OF THE FESTIVAL, WE DO WANT TO GIVE YOU INFORMATION ABOUT WHERE YOU CAN CHECK IT OUT. IT’S HAPPENING TOMORROW, 11 A.M. TO 7 P.M. AT THE OLD SACRAMENTO STATE HISTORIC PARK. IT IS A FREE EVENT. THERE WILL BE FOOD TRUCKS, A BEER AND WINE GARDEN. ALSO, YOU’RE ENCOURAGED TO BRING YOUR OWN LAWN CHAIRS, POP UP TENTS AND BLANKETS. IT’S A KIND OF EVENT WHERE IT’S KIND OF RELAXED LIKE THAT, SO DON’T WORRY ABOUT BRINGING THAT STUFF IN AND THEN YOU MAY JUST GET A CHANCE TO HEAR SOME WONDERFUL MUSIC FROM OUR FRIEND HERE. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME THIS MORNING. THANK YOU. YEAH. OKAY.
