MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Volunteer search organizations are teaming with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office to continue the recovery effort for a missing boater on Lake Monona.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said it is thankful for the help it’s received while trying to recover the boater that has been missing for almost a week.

“I want to just give a mega kudos to everybody involved in this so far,” said Dane County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Kyle McNally.

Founder and Director of Bruce’s Legacy Keith Cormican contributed his time and equipment to help with the search. Cormican invested in hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of technology on his boat to help families find their missing loved ones.

Volunteer group K9 SOS joined the search on Thursday morning, both on land and on the water.

“They come here on their own time with their own dogs. Think some of them from as far away as green bay came,” said Sgt. McNally.

He added that organizations that are willing to volunteer their time bring light to the difficult task at hand.

“We’re just blessed to have folks like that in the community that want to help. It actually helps fuel our efforts as these drag on,” Sgt. McNally said.

Ahead of Memorial Day weekend, authorities are reminding everyone on the water to be responsible.

“Let’s go ahead, wear our life jackets, touch up on your boating regulations and boating safety,” said McNally.

Officials temporarily closed the boat launch and part of the parking lot at Olin Park to help authorities with their search, but it was reopened around 4 p.m. Thursday.
