The MBTA replaced train service on a section of the Orange Line with shuttle buses Thursday evening due to “flood conditions” near Ruggles station caused by a spring nor’easter, the agency said.
Just before 7 p.m., the MBTA announced on X that shuttle buses would replace service between Ruggles and Jackson Square stations.
By 8:30 p.m., the MBTA instructed passengers downtown to take the Green Line instead of the Orange Line and announced that shuttle buses would replace service from Back Bay to Jackson Square stations. The agency also said on X that an additional shuttle would be available between Copley and Back Bay stations.

About 15 minutes later, the MBTA announced that the shuttle buses would be extended to replace service between Back Bay and Forest Hills stations, according to a post on X. They also clarified that Green Line service would replace Orange Line service from North Station to Copley station.

An MBTA spokesperson told The Boston Globe that train service was replaced due to high water conditions near the electrified third rail track at Roxbury Crossing. Debris accumulated near a flat drainage gate, which workers were called to clear, the Globe reported.
Earlier in the day, the MBTA also suspended Winthrop Ferry service for Thursday due to “strong winds and rough seas” caused by the nor’easter, according to a post on X.
