Bank of Guam has renewed its partnership and signature-level sponsorship of $40,000 with the Guam Basketball Confederation for Bank of Guam Men’s and Women’s National Basketball Teams.

As part of the partnership, Bank of Guam said it will continue to invest in Team Guam and efforts to support sports development and success on both local and international venues.

The Guam Basketball Confederation also manages the Guam Sports Academy with hundreds of young athletes for training sessions weekly year-round, along with youth basketball camps, coaching clinics, and all official GBC events throughout 2025.

Bank of Guam president and chief executive officer Joaquin P. L.G. Cook, in a statement, said Bank of Guam is proud of the boys team and the historic strides they’ve made, both at home and around the world, and is also excited about the next chapter with the women’s team.

“Our players are doing more than just playing basketball and winning games,” Cook said. “They’re showing the world who we are, and proving that when you work hard, stay disciplined, and believe in yourself, you can win big.”

EJ Calvo, president of the Guam Basketball Confederation, said Bank of Guam has been more than a sponsor—”they’ve been true partners in every sense of the word.”

“Their continued belief in our teams, our mission, and our athletes has played a vital role in our growth and success over the years. This meaningful partnership lifts our entire program and fuels the drive of our players to work harder and dream bigger. We wear the Bank of Guam name on our jerseys with pride, knowing we’re making history together for our island and for the next generation,” Calvo said.

This year’s sponsorship carries extra meaning following a history-making moment for Guam.

In March 2025, the Bank of Guam Men’s National Basketball Team earned its first-ever qualification for the prestigious FIBA Asia Cup, set to take place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia this August.

Team Guam’s victory over Thailand sealed their second-place finish in Group G, securing their place alongside Australia and New Zealand, the first time three Oceania teams will compete in the tournament.
