BLOOMINGTON – A new study conducted by Advance America, surveying 3,021 real estate professionals, has identified Bloomington as the top city in Indiana offering the best value for money. The survey asked professionals to name U.S. cities that provide the most “bang for your buck.”

While the top ten cities nationwide were primarily in Florida, South Carolina, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, and Texas, Bloomington stood out at number 36 on the national list and as the highest-ranking city in Indiana. Kokomo also made the list at number 67.
The study highlighted Bloomington’s “brainy energy and backwoods beauty,” noting its vibrant atmosphere fueled by Indiana University, a thriving live music scene, limestone trails, and eclectic shops. With a median home price of $310,000 and a cost of living only 5% above the national average, Bloomington offers a compelling balance of affordability and quality of life, all within 50 miles of Indianapolis. The study suggests Bloomington is ideal for those interested in academia or a lively, artsy environment.
Kokomo was recognized for its ongoing downtown revitalization efforts, including over $100 million in reinvestment, music festivals, trails, and tech parks. With an affordable median home price of $185,000 and a cost of living 17% below the national average, Kokomo was noted for its affordability and “Midwestern grit.”
The study aimed to identify “hidden gems” across America where affordability meets a desirable quality of life, offering alternatives to expensive coastal metropolises or less appealing areas with low costs.
Laura McCutcheon, VP of Marketing at Advance America, commented, “These cities prove that you don’t have to sacrifice lifestyle to save money. Whether you’re a young professional, raising a family, or planning your retirement, there are places across the country where your dollar works harder, without compromising on quality of life.”
