GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - The rain didn’t put a damper on some people’s Mother’s Day plans. The Coliseum of Comics allowed people to personalize a comic book in honor of their mom.

“Just a bright sunny day because that’s what moms bring,” shared Keystone Heights resident Daniel Culbreth.

Culbreth brought his mom to the comic store because he wanted to create a lasting memory and something that reminds him of her, like a personalized comic book.

“A lot of people don’t have their moms here. My mom’s mother isn’t around anymore, so it’s really important to spend time with them,” Culbreth said.

He says it’s important to spend time with your mom, but on days like Mother’s Day he celebrates her a little bit extra.

“She’s always been there. She’s really strong, yeah, she’s always been like caring, compassionate, and creative, so yeah, I wanted to do something for her,” shared Culbreth.

Culbreth says he always makes memories with his mom, but one from many, many years ago always sticks with him.

“It always comes back to a project we had in, I think it was first grade,” said Culbreth. “Everybody had a turkey that they needed to decorate, and everyone was filling it in with crayons and colored pencils, and my mom brought out the super glue, and coffee beans, and cotton balls, and corn, and stuff like that. Of course, it weighed like 4 or 5 pounds by the time I was done, but I had the most creative one of everybody.”

Culbreth says whether you’re young or grown, honoring your mom doesn’t have to be big, sometimes, it’s as simple as making a comic book together.
