Revellers headed to this year's Glastonbury Festival have been urged to do one thing by those who have been to the Worthy Farm event before. Ahead of performances from headliners The 1975, Olivia Rodrigo and Neil Young, long-time Glasto-goers are urging new attendees to act now.
Those lucky enough to get themselves a ticket to this year's festival received plenty of advice from veterans of the Worthy Farm event, who say their plan will "ease the suffering" of a long weekend in Somerset. So what was the all-important advice shared to the r/GlastonburyFestival subreddit?
A post to the Reddit page reads: "Start stretching your hamstrings now! If you get increasing pain in your lower back towards the end of the festival (like I did, as did a few others in our group) I learned a likely reason for this is because hamstrings are too tight - with the amount of walking and dancing at Glastonbury, this can throw off pelvic alignment and strain lower back. Hip mobility, hamstring stretches and strengthening your core/ glutes will help ease this suffering."
Many users of the forum agreed and suggested that walking every day and also exercising ahead of the festival was a necessity. One user wrote: "Yeah me and my girlfriend have started walking everyday after work to try get ourselves in festival order."
Another added: "Start stretching everything. Glastonbury is an endurance challenge."
A third wrote: "Another specific stretch that massively helped with my hip mobility and hamstrings were hip flexor stretches, my physio suggested them and have massively improved my back pain since doing them."
Those who are headed to the festival were thankful for the advice being offered and said they would incorporate it into their pre-festival plans.
One user wrote: "Thanks, I will certainly try it. I get a sore lower back when standing in one place for too long. That might be why."
Another added: "It might be your hamstrings, but it can also be one of your glute muscles or your hip flexors. Hip mobility stretching/Yoga in addition to hamstring would be the best to do."
Those who attended the festival in the past have since suggested they walked anywhere between 10 and 15 miles a day.
Another added they had walked enough steps to cover "just over three marathons" at last year's festival.
Glastonbury Festival revellers who find themselves suffering were advised to take up a spot at the Healing Fields, where yoga sessions are frequent.
One user wrote: "I can definitely relate to this. It’s also worth pointing out that they’ll be yoga on the healing fields too. At my age, this is a must!"
