Hostages from whom signs of life were received, and those whose condition is unknown

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu responded to comments made by Donald Trump in a video, stating: "We know for certain there are 21 hostages alive. There are three more whose condition is, unfortunately, uncertain." A total of 59 hostages remain in Hamas captivity, 35 of whom have been officially classified by Israel as dead in captivity.

A total of 59 hostages are still being held by Hamas – 35 of them have been officially declared by Israel as dead in captivity. In a video released Wednesday, following President Donald Trump's remarks, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said: "We know for certain that 21 are alive. There are another three whose fate, unfortunately, remains uncertain."

Netanyahu's video followed Trump's remarks the previous day, in which the president claimed that "only 21 hostages are still alive."

Hostages from whom signs of life have been received

Bar Kuperstein (22):

A month ago, a first video of Bar Kuperstein, together with fellow hostage Maxim Herkin, was released. In the video, they addressed both another hostage who had been with them in captivity and the Israeli public, pleading for help to secure their release. They mentioned almost being hit in IDF airstrikes in Gaza and said that following the resumption of fighting, they were taken back into the tunnels. They had one request from the government: to be brought home to their families.

His family said: "Our hearts are broken. The video proves one thing – he is alive, he is there, he is waiting." Bar, from Holon, was a security guard at the Re'im music festival (Nova). According to testimonies, he could have saved himself but chose to help the wounded. He is the eldest of five siblings. After his father, Tal, was seriously injured in an accident and became disabled, Bar took on a central role in the family.

Maxim Herkin (35):

Maxim Herkin, 35, from Tirat Carmel, was abducted on October 7 from the Nova music festival at Re'im. His first sign of life came a month ago in a joint video with Bar Kuperstein. Then, last Saturday – after 575 days in captivity – Hamas released another video of him.

Maksim immigrated to Israel with his mother, Talia, a single parent. He has an 11-year-old brother, Peter, who waits for his return. The family came from Ukraine seeking safety and a home. Now his mother is fighting for her son's freedom. She said: "Maksim is our backbone, our anchor. He supports us financially. He is my entire world."

Elkana Bohbot (35):

Elkana Bohbot, 35, was abducted while working in the Nova festival production team. Hamas released two consecutive videos of him, following a sign of life received from released hostages.

In one of the videos, he breaks down in tears, begging to be freed, and ends by falling to his knees, covering his face in despair.

Yosef-Haim Ohana (25):

On March 24, 2025, a video of Yosef-Haim Ohana, 25, from Kiryat Malakhi, was published. He appeared alongside Elkana Buhbut, and both families approved the release. Yosef said: "Before the first deal, things were hard. There was no food. We didn't know if we would live or die."

Yosef, the eldest son in his family, was abducted from the Nova festival after helping evacuate the wounded. His family didn't know his fate for two weeks. His mother, Miri Ben Ami, said: "I was glad he was alive, but before that we were in total uncertainty."

Guy Gilboa-Dalal (23) and Evyatar David (24)

On February 22, a video surfaced showing Guy Gilboa-Dalal and Evyatar David at a ceremony honoring the released hostages. They pleaded for their own release. Both were abducted from the Nova festival. Just before the attack, Guy and his brother Gal had sent a selfie to their parents. They were separated during the escape. Gal was rescued hours later, while Guy was filmed in Gaza.

Evyatar had attended the festival with four close friends – two were murdered, one survived, and he and childhood friend Guy were taken to Gaza. His sister Yaala, 18, said: "Evyatar was wearing a shirt that said 'Never lose hope' – and we believe hope is the last thing to go."

Eitan Horn (38)

Eitan Horn was kidnapped with his brother Yair, who was later released. On March 1, Hamas released a heartbreaking video showing their emotional farewell. Eitan is seen crying: "I'm very happy my brother is leaving tomorrow, but it makes no sense to separate families. Free us all. Tell everyone to keep protesting."

Eitan was visiting Yair at Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7 when both were abducted. Yair was released after 498 days in captivity.

Nimrod Cohen (20)

Nimrod Cohen, a 20-year-old IDF soldier from Rehovot, was abducted from a tank on the Gaza border. A video of him being dragged from the tank, exhausted and pulled by his hair, haunts his family.

On March 1, Hamas released another video showing the Horn brothers' farewell, in which Nimrod also appears – but his face was blurred. His parents identified him by a tattoo he got just days before being kidnapped.

Matan Angrest (22)

Matan Angrest, 22, was critically wounded when kidnapped from a tank in Nahal Oz. On March 7, 2025, Hamas released a video of him. In it, he says: "I'm just waiting for the moment to hug you all. I'm sure you're doing everything to bring me home." The video indicated he had been in captivity for 511 days.

The family also released footage of his abduction, in which a Gaza mob lynched him.

Matan Zangauker (25)

Matan Zangauker, 25, was abducted on October 7 from his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz along with his girlfriend Ilana Gritchovski. On December 7, 2024 – exactly 14 months after the abduction – Hamas published a video of him in captivity.

In the clip, he addresses his mother, Einav, a prominent activist in the campaign for the hostages' release, saying: "I hope to sit with you at a table, to eat with you, talk with you, drink with you." In July, another video was released showing him being transported on a motorcycle between two terrorists in a crowded area on the outskirts of Khan Younis, while a cheering crowd shouted at the sight of the "Jewish prize."

Edan Alexander (20)

Edan Alexander, 20, a lone soldier from New Jersey, was abducted from the Kissufim military post after volunteering for a weekend shift. On November 30, 2024, Hamas released his first video. In it, Edan said: "To Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma – the pain grows with each passing day. I miss you all so much. I pray to see you soon. Please stay strong. This nightmare will end."

He also directly addressed President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "People of Israel, don't abandon us. We want to come home sane. The fear and isolation are killing us. Please don't forget us. It's not fair that we should pay for a mistake made by our government. Citizens of Israel, demonstrate every day – put pressure on the government."

Rom Braslavski (21)

Rom Braslavski, 21, was abducted from the Nova music festival after helping others. On April 16, the terrorist group Islamic Jihad released a video in which Rom said: "I've been held in Gaza for over a year and a half. Every day is hell. I have no water, no food, I'm sick, and I don't have medicine. I'm in constant pain."

The first indication that Rom was alive came on March 6, 2025, when released hostage Sasha Troponov shared a video and urged the public to fight for the hostages' release. In it, he specifically mentioned Rom, providing a first sign of life after 517 days in captivity. Rom is the middle child between Amit and Ziv. Ziv recently celebrated his bar mitzvah but postponed the celebration in hopes his brother would be home for it.

Gali and Ziv Berman (27)

On February 11, 2025, the family of twins Gali and Ziv Berman announced that they had received a sign of life from the two after nearly 500 days in captivity. Their sister Liran Berman said: "We got a sign of life from returned hostages. They're alive. They were separated. We saw them separately. They're alive. That gave us so much air."

The Berman twins were kidnapped from the youth neighborhood in Kibbutz Kfar Aza alongside other young people, including Yotam Haim, Emily Damari, Doron Steinbrecher, and Amit Susana. Damari and the Berman twins were close friends. Just before being kidnapped, Gali told his family: "I have to go to Emily, she's scared. I need to be with her. I'm running with a knife."

David Cunio (35)

On February 17, 2025 – more than 16 months after he was abducted from Kibbutz Nir Oz along with his wife Sharon and their two daughters – David Cunio's family received confirmation he was alive.

The last time his wife and daughters saw him was in November, when they were separated. They were released, while he remained in Gaza. David's brother, Ariel Konyo, is also still held captive.

Omri Miran (48)

On April 23, 2025, the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, Hamas released a video of Omri Miran, 48, who was abducted from Kibbutz Nahal Oz. His family responded: "On Holocaust Remembrance Day, when the words 'Never Again' are traditionally said, an Israeli citizen cries out from Hamas tunnels. It is a disgrace to the State of Israel. Our Omri is strong and will not break, but our hearts are broken. He and 58 others have waited a year and a half for their return. We won't give up until he's home – especially for his two daughters who are waiting to hug him."

On February 11, 2025, Omri's brother Boaz said the family had received confirmation of life from a freed hostage, who shared that they were separated in July. He added: "We were told Omri's condition was generally okay. They had been kept in both tunnels and apartments."

Omri was abducted from his home in one of the most widely shared and disturbing abduction videos circulated on social media. He is married to Lishi Lavie and is the father of two daughters – Roni, now 3 and a half, and Alma, who was six months old when he was kidnapped and is now two.

Alon Ohel (24)

On February 9, 2025, the family of Alon Ohel, 24, announced they had received a first sign of life through released hostages Or Levi and Eli Sharabi. His was the first family to publicly share such confirmation. They said his physical and mental state was grave. He had an eye injury and risked losing his sight.

His father, Kobi Ahel, said: "It's a sign of life, but his condition is bad. Since November, he's been in the tunnels, hasn't seen daylight, and is shackled. He gets one pita a day. It's hell. We also learned he has shrapnel injuries in his eye and body from the attack at the shelter – and he's not receiving medical care."

Avinatan Or (32)

On March 12, 2025, a first sign of life was received from Avinatan Or, who had been in captivity for 523 days. The information came from interrogations of freed hostages from central camps, who described harsh conditions with little food and water.

Avinatan was abducted along with his partner, Noa Argamani. That day, Noa posted on X: "Bring my Avinatan home." She also shared a story: "Until Avinatan returns, my heart remains captive."

Segev Kalfon (27)

In February 2025, Segev Kalfon's family received a sign of life via a released hostage. Though the news was positive, his mother voiced concern: "My son is responsive, but he's tormented, thin, and starving. From what I heard from the freed hostage – we must do everything to get him out." Segev, 27, from Dimona, was abducted from the Nova festival.

When the attack began, he and his friend Asaf Harush tried to escape by car. They noticed another vehicle riddled with bullets, exited their own car, and Segev ran to the road – where he was captured and taken to Gaza. His friend witnessed the kidnapping.

Eitan Mor (23)

On February 12, 2025, the family of Eitan Mor, 23, from Jerusalem, said they received a sign of life through returned hostages. Eitan was abducted from the Nova festival while working there as an unarmed security guard.

His mother, Efrat, said: "It was hard reading in the newspaper that men were being tortured more. I'm trying not to let my imagination run wild. I don't want to fall apart, but sometimes you can't help it. Eitan is strong and beloved. I imagine his guards befriending him. He has a personal charm."
