BUTTE, Mont. – With the Montana Folk Festival set to return this July, organizers are calling for volunteer help to make the event a success.
The festival will take place from July 11 to 13, attracting thousands to the Mining City for a celebration of food, arts, crafts, and, of course, music.
Festival director George Everett emphasized the importance of volunteers to keeping the Folk Festival running smoothly.
"We need 900-some volunteers," Everett said. "Young is good, old is not bad if you have lots of experience and wisdom. But a combination is what we’re shooting for. A balance of people--we're looking to broaden the scope of who gets involved."
As the festival marks its 16th year of existence, organizers are eager to involve more young people in volunteering. This effort aims to assist older volunteers with tasks involving heavy equipment and to instill a spirit of service that ensures the festival remains free for years to come.
And there are numerous way to contribute.
"Backstage hospitality is one," Everett said. "We want to be sure we have a lot of people for that. Ticket sales, operations... and that does sometimes require some heavy lifting."
Everett assured that even those without specific skills can find roles and receive guidance from experienced team members.
In addition to the music and meals, volunteers will enjoy a free T-shirt and the organizers' gratitude as a token of appreciation.
For those interested in volunteering, applications can be found online at the Montana Folk Festival website. You can also call Everett at 406-565-2249 for more information.
