One of my favorite fashion events of the year.
Yesterday, Riley Green attended the 151st running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, which was attended by tons of other celebrities and looked like a really fun time.
The horse named Sovereignty won the race, and in an interview beforehand, Riley likened the whole experience (his first time at the derby) to the famous Talladega Speedway, a famous NASCAR track known for rowdy times and close races:
“Well, I don’t normally wear church clothes, so it’s not quite my vibe. But it’s a fancier, kind of, Talladega, I guess. That’s what I grew up around. For years I’ve wanted to come, I love the tradition of it. It’s so cool to come somewhere it’s been going on for this long.
It’s exciting, it’s a great alignment with country music. Maybe I’ve been to like, a dog track before, but it’s very different than that. It’s a whole ordeal. Everybody’s got me studing these little sheets of paper, it’s like going back to school.
Just pick the one that has the coolest name, I guess. But it’s been really awesome, I’ve enjoyed it.”
I don’t know about how similar it really is to Talladega, but after a few mint juleps, it probably does feel like that in some ways. I know I’ve heard a number of people say the Kentucky Derby is the most fun they’ve ever had… that sure sounds like Dega. Maybe Riley is on to something…
But just as much as the Kentucky Derby is a sporting event, it’s a major fashion event where the ladies bring out their best and biggest hats, which is honestly my favorite part of watching any of it… bit’s not just the ladies who have fun with fashion, plenty of guys do it up big for the derby too, and Riley looked sharp in a brown, plaid suit with a brown cowboy hat:
Of course, the ladies were loving his look, and I love how classic and timeless it was. He doesn’t dress up often, but when he does, he always nails it and I think everyone agrees with me.
Honestly, girls say this stuff no matter what he posts, but it seemed especially unhinged yesterday as Riley donned his “church clothes,” as he put it:
“You can Kentucky my derby.”
“I came here for the comments.
“Forget the derby – you just won best in show.”
“Well EXCUSEEEEEEEEEEEEE me, you look like you love me.”
“Fine specimen of a Kentucky gentleman.”
“Should’ve brought me to horse around with you.”
“I’m married! You stop it sir!”
“GOOD GOD.”
“Yeah boy that’s a fine lookin man.”
“Thank you lord for Riley Green.”
“You can leave your hat on.”
“This man is just too much.”
“Save a horse, ride a cowboy.”
“It’s the hat for me.”
“That’s the best thing I’ve ever seen in Kentucky.”
“Oh my heee hawwww.”
“Y’all people actually comment these things on this man’s picture? Lmao my god yall are weird.”
“Those are some fine looking…. horses.”
“You are finer than a frog’s hair split 4 ways.”
“Oops there I go drooling again.”
“Unrealistic beauty standards!!!”
