Amid rising tensions between Pakistan and India following the Pahalgam killings in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir, the Healthcare Devices Association of Pakistan (HDAP) has announced that in the event of any strike, conflict, or national emergency, it will ensure uninterrupted availability of critical medical devices and diagnostic products essential for emergency healthcare services.
The association pledged to work closely with healthcare providers, hospitals and authorities to safeguard the well-being of both civilians and Pakistan’s armed forces. In a statement, the HDAP stressed its preference for peace and dialogue, but made it clear that it would not hesitate to fully support Pakistan’s defence and healthcare systems if any act of aggression was initiated by India.
The HDAP’s announcement comes amid a worsening diplomatic and security situation between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. Medical devices, ranging from ventilators and emergency surgical kits to blood analyzers and imaging equipment, form the backbone of critical health care, particularly during wartime. Their uninterrupted availability is essential for saving lives during emergencies, operating field hospitals and ensuring rapid diagnosis and treatment under battlefield conditions.
In its statement, the HDAP said that through its vast network of member companies, it played a crucial role in ensuring the supply of these life-saving technologies. Its members import, manufacture and distribute a wide range of medical equipment, from basic diagnostic tools to highly specialised surgical and intensive care devices.
"Our professional and responsible association stands united with the peaceful and resilient spirit of the nation," the HDAP statement read. "While we seek and prefer peace — in line with the aspirations of the people of Pakistan — we are fully prepared to stand shoulder to shoulder with our brave armed forces should any act of aggression be initiated."
