Amy Macdonald to perform surprise free pop up set in Glasgow to mark new album tour dates

The chart-topping Scots singer’s new single Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For? premiered on BBC Radio 2’s Scott Mills show this morning.

Amy Macdonald is to perform free pop up set at Glasgow’s Princes Square, Glasgow to celebrate her new album and a UK and European tour announcement. The chart-topping Scots singer’s new single Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For? premiered on BBC Radio 2 ’s Scott Mills show this morning.

It will be followed by Amy’s new album of the same name which is released on July 11. Amy’s tour will see her perform a massive homecoming show at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro.

But this week she has lined up a surprise pop-up show at Prince’s Square at 1pm on Friday.

Amy, who is one of Scotland’s favourite singers is known for her uplifting songs and relatable struggles. Her five albums, to date, have sold 12 million copies with over a billion streams.

She has also performed to over 5 million people worldwide. Her sixth album is currently available to pre-order. The Hydro show will take place on December 12.

As well as the tour dates, Amy has lined up major festival sets, including the Isle of Wight and the Neighbourhood Weekender, as well as further shows in Germany and Switzerland.

Amy said: “I feel very lucky to be in the place I am now. I’ve got this career, good friends, my family, and people still seem to want to hear my music, which is great. There’s a realness in me, something raw – honestly I’m winging it most of the time.”

The album’s title track introduces the record.

Amy added: “This song was actually inspired by when they opened The Sphere in Las Vegas – I woke up one day and saw all of these videos of it, and I thought, this is incredible! I was totally blown away by it, and it reminded me of how gigs are experiences.

“It really inspired me and made me think about how music is for me, and gigs have always been the most important part. But streaming has created the demand for new music all of the time – it’s like a constant treadmill.

“This song is my view on how people always expect more music and social media content.”

A pre-sale for tour tickets, which opens at 10am on Monday, April 28. It will remain live until the general sale opens at 10am on Wednesday, April 30th. The full list of live dates across UK, Ireland and Europe are listed below.

In addition to digital formats, ‘Is This What You’ve Been Waiting For?’ will be released on black vinyl and CD from Amy’s official store, while Amazon has an exclusive signed Deluxe CD.
