The latest in new music from Dean Frost, Lana Del Rey, Turnstile, Loyle Carner & more in this week’s 1883 On Rotation playlist.
On rotation this week, musician Dean Frost has shared his debut single, “fresh start’. It features soft vocals, euphoric horns, and warm production, showcasing his talents as an exceptional songwriter who pens beautifully vivid indie, alternative, and folk songs with unique vocals and heartbreaking lyricism. Originally written in March 2022, Frost says it was the first song he felt “proud of writing”, and it serves as the perfect introduction to this flourishing artist.
The inimitable songstress Lana Del Rey has shared her first single of the year with the gorgeously tender “Henry, come on”. The slow-burning, acoustic-led track features flawless vocals, country twangs and cinematic strings. Later this month Del Rey will perform at Stagecoach Country Music Festival—her first live performance since headlining Coachella last year. She’ll then be performing a string of sold-out UK stadium shows this summer.
Alexandra Savior has shared her new single “The Mothership”. The song, lifted from her new record Beneath The Lilypad, features dulcet tones, instrumentals that could be lifted from a western cowboy flick, and lush production. Savior spoke to 1883 recently about the new album which delves into themes of love, ego, insecurity, and mental health. Beneath The Lilypad lands May 16.
Rising artist Bridget has been steadily making a name for herself thanks to her distinctive sound that combines elements of grunge, rock, and punk. The songwriter has now shared her first release of the year with the ferocious “Hairspray”. It’s a high-octane track with snarling vocals and punchy production.
American rockers TURNSTILE have shared the title track from their new studio album NEVER ENOUGH. The single manages to combine vibrant production, ambient moments, and thunderous riffs accompanied by pounding drums. It all climaxes in an ethereal and beautiful soundscape by the end of the song. The band will appear at Glastonbury Festival in June. NEVER ENOUGH drops June 6.
Rap trailblazer Loyle Carner is back with a double single release, “all I need’ and ‘in my mind’ via Island EMI. Acknowledged as ‘all I need’ being the A-side of the release and ‘in my mind’ being the B-side, we’re focusing on B. It’s a hypnotic and sun-kissed hip-hop song that combines poetic, soulful vocals with warm guitar and laidback drums. It’s a totally new side of the groundbreaking artist. Loyle will headline Glastonbury’s The Other Stage on June 27.
Emerging multi-instrumentalist and DJ KDYN has shared new single, Feel The Same. It is is a grooving and club-ready anthem. It’s all the more impressive when you realise the artist produces, records, mixes, and masters everything himself. If you like Mura Masa or Barry Can’t Swim, KDYN could be for you. His new EP of the same name lands in June.
Finally, Liverpool’s rap newcomer KOJ has shared an emotive and moving track entitled “SINterlude”, lifted from his EP VILLAIN WITH A CONSCIENCE. Full of introspective lyrics and dramatic production, it’s a very personal song to the artist. There’s also a striking music video out now featuring dancer Kolade T. Ladipo.
