BOERNE, Texas - Jose Ramiro Monterroso Vasquez, a 43-year-old resident of Guatemala, has been sentenced to 21 months in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Institutional Division after pleading guilty to charges of abandoning and endangering a child.
The maximum sentence for the charges was 24 months.
The charges originated from an incident on August 18, 2024, when Boerne Police Officers responded to a disturbance at the Shady Rest trailer park on the 100 block of Clear Sky. Officers, who were granted permission to search the residence for weapons allegedly involved in the disturbance, discovered Vasquez's 8-year-old daughter living in severely neglectful conditions.
The investigation revealed that the child was residing in a trailer without running water, faulty electrical wiring, and unsanitary conditions, including human feces and insect infestation. Officers noted the presence of roaches and other insects on the child's bedding and body. The trailer also contained rotten food, exposed wires, and holes in the floors and walls.
City and county officials later investigated the trailer home, deemed it uninhabitable, and subsequently removed it. Following the incident, the child was initially placed in the care of a protective adult and ultimately with family.
Upon completion of his prison sentence, Vasquez is expected to be released to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
