Tesla has launched its official tow package for its second best-selling electric car in Australia and New Zealand.
In a post on Linkedin, Tesla’s country manager, Thom Drew, said the Model 3 Tow Package is now available in both countries, and will be offered and installed at Tesla service centres, coming in at $1,970.
The description on the website for the Tesla Model 3 tow package states that it’s capable of towing up to 1,000 kg:
“Equip your Model 3 with a high-strength steel tow bar and 2” hitch receiver capable of towing up to 1,000kg.”
Details of what’s included in the package directly from Tesla will include:
- 1x high-strength steel tow bar with 7-pin flat (type 3) connector
- 1x detachable 2” hitch receiver
- 2x keys to secure lock the detachable receiver

The tow package can tow small trailers, boats, jet skis, bikes and other items under the 1,000 kg limit.
The new tow package will be compatible with all non-performance Model 3 variants, 2017-2023 and 2024+ and can be ordered through the Tesla app for owners.
In 2023, Tesla also launched the official Model Y tow bar, which has a towing capacity of 1,600 kg.
Previously, other suppliers have offered aftermarket tow bars for the Model 3 that are also rated for 1,000 kg.
Now, with an official solution available through Tesla, it will be something that over 50,000 Model 3s on our roads can access, making it easier for those who want to tow things around town.
