Ex-Indonesian Coach Shin Tae-yong Tapped as VP of South Korea's Football Body

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe President of the Korea Football Association (KFA), Chung Mong-gyu, appointed former Indonesia National Team coach Shin Tae-yong as the vice president of the South Korean football body. As quoted from the South Korean media YNA, on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, Shin Tae-yong will handle external affairs, namely the relations with other countries in the Asian region and the world.

Aside from Shin Tae-yong, there are four other names in the KFA vice president lineup, namely Shin Jeong-sik (Provincial Association), Kim Byeong-ji (K-League), Lee Yong-soo (Planning and Administration), and Park Hang-seo (National Team Support). The official announcement from KFA stated that this appointment reflects the desire of President Chung Mong-gyu to cultivate young administrators with a background in football.

In addition, Chung Mong-gyu also reorganized the subcommittees from eight to nine. The Communication Committee and the International Committee were re-established, while the Social Contribution Committee was removed. The head of the National Team Performance Enhancement Committee, responsible for selecting coaches for each national team, is Hyun Young-min, a commentator from Sky Sports. At the age of 45, Hyun Young-min is the youngest chairperson since the committee was launched.

The heads of the Technical Development Committee, Tournament Committee, Referee Committee, Medical Committee, and Ethics Committee are, respectively, Lee Jang-gwan, former coach of Jeonnam Dragons; Kim Hyeon-tae, former Director of the Strengthening Office of the Daejeon Performance Enhancement Office; Moon Jin-hee, former Head of the Referee Committee; Dr. Kim Gwang-jun from Severance Hospital in Sinchon; and attorney Kim Yun-ju.

Furthermore, Chung Mong-gyu also appointed coach Kim Seung-Hee as the executive director entrusted with the important task of overseeing the association's administration.
