Forty pupils are set to travel from Tenbury to Gambia to help build an orphanage.

The Tenbury High Ormiston Academy students will be heading to Africa in December, accompanied by four staff members, to assist in constructing a new orphanage and teaching local pupils.

To support their mission, the dedicated students are each raising £100, amounting to over £4,000, to fund the orphanage.

The academy is also arranging a series of fundraising events, including a bingo night, student quiz, and cake sales, to gather additional funds.

During their visit, the pupils will assist in construction and teach at the Mansa-Colley Bojang School, which has provided life-changing education to over 1,000 young people.

Eager to make a difference, the students are excited to share their knowledge and experiences with the Gambian community.

Vicki Dean, principal at Tenbury High Ormiston Academy, said: "As principal, I am hoping to build a relationship between the Gambian and THOA community that will last many years, allowing us to make more of a difference to the lives of our hosts but also to allow our pupils to experience something significantly different to their own lives.

"One of our key curricula aims is to ensure our pupils gain an understanding of the world around them and develop an understanding and appreciation for difference and cultural diversity.

"I am sure this trip will go a long way for securing this vision for our children."

The academy is appealing for community support and donations, which can be made via their JustGiving page.
