Shaheed El-Hafed (Sahrawi Refugee Camps), 4 April 2025 (SPS) – The Personal Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, continued his visit to the Sahrawi refugee camps on Saturday, where he is scheduled to meet with the Sahrawi President, Brahim Ghali, and hold talks with Sahrawi officials.
According to the Polisario Front’s representative to the United Nations and coordinator with the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO), Sidi Mohamed Omar, de Mistura’s agenda for Saturday includes "political discussions with members of the Polisario Front’s National Leadership, visits to various institutions, and meetings with Sahrawi women."
The Personal Envoy’s visit "will conclude in the evening with official talks with the President of the Sahrawi Republic and Secretary-General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali," added Sidi Mohamed Omar.
On Friday, Staffan de Mistura had met with Mustafa Mohamed Ali Sidi El-Bachir, a member of the Polisario Front’s National Secretariat and Minister of Occupied Territories and the Diaspora, in the presence of Sidi Mohamed Omar, before touring several institutions of the Sahrawi Republic.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the key concerns of the Sahrawi people, particularly their right to self-determination, which remains the primary challenge for the United Nations today, as well as the situation of Sahrawi political prisoners in Moroccan occupation prisons and the international campaign for their release.
