Santo Domingo.- A large-scale environmental protection operation is underway in three national parks in the Dominican Republic—Los Haitises, Sierra de Neiba, and Sierra de Bahoruco—led by the National Environmental Protection Service (Senpa), in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Immigration, and the Army.

The operation aims to combat illegal activities such as deforestation, wildlife trafficking, and unauthorized land occupation that threaten the country’s biodiversity and ecological balance. Senpa Director General Ángel Camacho Ubiera emphasized the importance of inter-agency cooperation and issued a strong message of zero tolerance for environmental crimes.

In addition to halting destructive activities, the initiative seeks to raise awareness about the role national parks play in climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and supporting local communities. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing and expanded efforts to preserve the country’s natural heritage.
