Pep Guardiola 14-second message for Manchester United makes Man City priorities clear

Manchester City take on Manchester United on Sunday in the Premier League but there was very little talk of it

Well, then. How are Manchester City feeling ahead of a derby against Manchester United?

"Good. The last two games we were good and hopefully we continue in the last eight games in the Premier League and prepare. The people rest and tomorrow we're going to prepare the game."

And that was that. Just 34 words in 14 seconds for Pep Guardiola's thoughts on how City are looking ahead of what is usually one of the biggest games in the calendar.

It really isn't normally this way, when United are always a topic of interest. Guardiola usually gets asked about the opposition manager or some variation of a question around why the Reds are so much worse than the sum of their parts.

This was no ordinary press conference though. News breaking minutes before it started that Kevin De Bruyne will leave the club took over everything.

City's fall down the league table this season has meant that the Manchester derby has less riding on it than it usually does, and the De Bruyne news was all anyone wanted to talk about.

Guardiola said that De Bruyne's achievements transcend the sport, so they certainly transcend a trip to Old Trafford on Sunday.

The rest of the season, which already had an unusual feel to it, will now be even weirder as City's games play out alongside De Bruyne's final matches for his club.

All Blues will want the best farewell for one of the club's greatest ever players, although Guardiola will have to put sentiment to one side as he looks to ensure qualification for the Champions League next season.
