Manchester United ace Bruno Fernandes joins star-studded list after winning Premier League award
Man United captain Bruno Fernandes has been honoured for his performances in March.
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has won the Premier League's Player of the Month award for March.
Despite March only consisting of a maximum of two rounds of fixtures for most Premier League teams, Fernandes enjoyed a very rewarding couple of games, helping United draw 1-1 with Arsenal at Old Trafford and beat Leicester City 3-0 at the King Power Stadium.
The Portuguese international, who has scored 16 goals in all competitions this season, scored a fabulous free-kick against the Gunners to put United 1-0 ahead just before half-time.
He then added two assists and a goal to his collection in the victory at Leicester seven days later. He supplied the pass that enabled Rasmus Hojlund to bring an end his run of 21 games without a goal before teeing up Alejandro Garnacho to end his own goal drought.
The United ace then got himself on the scoresheet in the final minute of normal time, sweeping home United's third, meaning he scored two goals and claimed two assists in two league games in March.
Fernandes was nominated for the Player of the Month award alongside Arsenal's Declan Rice, Brighton & Hove Albion defender Jan Paul van Hecke, Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga, fellow Forest ace Nikola Milenkovic and Wolves midfielder Jean-Ricner Bellegarde.
Fernandes' victory has secured his fifth Premier League Player of the Month award since joining United from Sporting Lisbon in January 2020, but staggeringly, it is his first since since December of that year.
Having now won five Player of the Month awards, he has joined a star-studded list of names to have won the gong on five occasions, including the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Harry Kane, Steven Gerrard and Sergio Aguero.
He is currently tied on five with former United strikers Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.
He is the first United player to have won the Premier League's Player of the Month award since Rasmus Hojlund won it in February last year.
