Organic wine company Vinca has launched the UK’s first wines in full-sized recyclable aluminium bottles.
Known for its collection of award-winning canned wines, first introduced in 2021, Vinca is now pushing the boundaries of sustainable wine innovation. The new bottles of Vinca’s vegan white and red wines debuted in 300 Tesco stores across the UK this week and online at vincawine.com (RRP £9 for 750ml).
Lightweight and sustainable, Vinca’s fully PCR (post-consumer recycled) aluminium bottles – compared with around 60% recycled content in glass – chill wine faster and have a wine-grade lining inside, keeping the wine fresh.
The company noted that producing the bottle uses four times less CO₂ than glass – and each one weighs only 68g empty, compared with an average of 450g for a glass wine bottle. Their sleek shape also means smaller cases for transporting, so 40% more wine bottles fit in each shipping container, leading to reductions in carbon emissions.
The space-saving design also allows retailers to merchandise three Vinca bottles in the same space as two glass bottles, meaning more inventory on the shelves and increased shelf visibility and brand presence.
The new bottles are available in a choice of two award-winning Italian wines: Organic Catarratto White (750ml; 11%) and Organic Syrah & Nero D’avola Red (750ml; 12%)
Vinca’s co-founder, Jack Green, said: “We are so excited to finally share our fully recyclable full-sized aluminium wine bottles with the world! Our canned wines have quickly become the ‘go-to’ wine at music festivals and theatres, and on trains and airlines and now we’re delighted to introduce our new aluminium bottles. They have all the quality and deliciousness of premium Sicilian wine but with less environmental impact than the traditional glass.”
Sarah Robinson, Tesco Wine Buying Manager, commented: “We’re excited to stock Vinca wine in aluminium bottles which are lightweight, easy to transport and quick to cool, making them perfect for summer picnics and impromptu barbeques. In addition, the bottles are easy to recycle and protect the quality of the wine.”
