Monroe’s will host a weekend of music and comedy, with rockabilly rhythms and sharp-witted stand-up on the bill.

On Friday, April 4, Rob Heron and the Tea Pad Orchestra will bring their high-energy swing-honkytonk-rockabilly fusion to Monroe’s Live stage.

With swing, rockabilly, country, blues, and soul, the Newcastle-based band has been making waves across Europe.

Frontman Rob Heron, whose voice has been described as a mix between Tom Waits and Hank Williams, leads the group with a passion for obscure blues and country records that seeps into their music.

The band’s journey began over a decade ago when they met while studying at Newcastle University. Since then, they’ve toured with acclaimed acts like Pokey LaFarge and The Dead South, as well as performing at Glastonbury and the Cambridge Folk Festival.

Their latest album, Feet First, was recorded live in just two days at Berlin’s Lightning Recorders, capturing an authentic analogue sound.

Heron is joined by a stellar line-up of musicians, including Tom Cronin on mandolin, harmonica, and guitar, Ben Powling on saxophone and clarinet, Adam Richards on bass, and Paul Archibald on drums.

With their ability to evoke the spirit of Bob Wills and Django Reinhardt, the Tea Pad Orchestra promises a foot-stomping night.

Tickets for the show are priced at €15 from www.monroes.ie

This Saturday, April 5, comedy takes centre stage as Fiona Frawley brings her signature wit and dry humour to Monroe’s Live.

One of Ireland’s rising stand-up talents, Frawley has built a reputation for her perfectly timed cringe, and razor-sharp observations.

Fresh from supporting Killian Sundermann and sharing the stage with Tommy Tiernan, she now takes her debut solo show, Are You Mad at Me? to Galway.

The show playfully delves into the universal fear of having unintentionally offended everyone, as well as the struggles of navigating life as what she calls a “teenage 34-year-old.”

Packed with self-deprecating charm and plenty of laughs, Frawley promises a night of relatable comedy that even reluctant plus-ones will enjoy.

Having performed at Electric Picnic, the Vodafone Comedy Festival, and the Comedy Store in London, she has cemented her place as a must-see performer on the Irish comedy circuit.

Doors open at 7:30pm for this fully seated show, with tickets €18 from www.monroes.ie .

Afterwards, join DJ Corey to dance the night away to the top anthems at Monroe’s Late Night Venue from midnight until 2am. Tickets €10.
