Many of us are excited for mothers day but do we really celebrate it the way it should be.
When we were younger or in primary school we used to make cute cards with cute messages in them for our mothers in effort to make them smile however as we got older it became difficult to uphold this tradition.
This used to be a day to celebrate our mothers, admit our wrongdoings and express how much we really love them, however now because many people lack the time or effort to make handmade cards or to spend time with their mum on Mothers day has lost its meaning.
This doesn’t mean that flowers and chocolates aren’t appreciated on mothers day or that mothers worldwide dislike the idea of gifts on mother’s day, but we are forgetting the true meaning behind why it was created.
Mothers day initially began during the Middle Ages.
This was when families would unite to celebrate Lent (a Christian festival) and this was common because many children would move away from home for work however return on this date solely to celebrate Lent together.
Gradually, this became Mothers day in the UK which is celebrated on the last Sunday of March and as this follows the Gregorian Calendar the date changes every year .
This year Mothers Day falls on Sunday 30th of March so as we approach this day we need to remember our Mothers and our loved ones and use this day as a chance to make them smile.
