Concertgoers in Cork were left confused this week after receiving notifications that their tickets for the upcoming Rewind festival at Virgin Media Park have been cancelled.

The notifications were sent out on Thursday afternoon, and the event has also been listed as cancelled on the public Ticketmaster page with no formal reason given. At the time of writing, Rewind has not issued a statement regarding the apparent cancellation.

The festival was due to be headlined by Bob Geldof's Boomtown Rats and UK pop band Squeeze, with a range of talented acts like Boyzlife, Go West and Tiffany all due to perform a set.

The event is showing up as cancelled on Ticketmaster

Rewind was due to hold two festivals in Ireland this year, one in Cork and one in Dublin. According to Ticketmaster, the Dublin festival will go ahead as planned at St Anne's Park on June 1.

Many of the acts that were set to play at the Cork event will perform at the Dublin show, so those who were dead set on seeing their favourite artists may be able to see them live in the capital.

Ticketmaster typically allows customers to choose an alternative date when a show is cancelled, so those who bought tickets for the Cork show may be able to exchange them for a pass to the Dublin date. However, this does differ from show to show.

A number of fans have reached out to CorkBeo about the cancellation and we have reached out to Rewind for comment.

Thankfully, there are still plenty of great gigs planned in Cork over the summer, with major acts like Cian Ducrot, Christy Moore and The Coronas all due to play The Big Tent in June.

As for Virgin Media Park, bands like Snow Patrol, the Saw Doctors and Stereophonics will rock the stadium this summer, giving eager concertgoers a good variety to choose from.
