ASHEVILLE, N.C. (828newsNOW) – Spring has commenced. W.N.C. is sprouting with new opportunities for you to experience. Budding this weekend are all manner of events from hands-on experiences to sitting back and watching evenings. Whatever your speed, the greater Asheville area has something pruned just for you.

Asheville Orchid Festival – The 24th Asheville Orchid Festival will feature world-class orchid growers. Hosted by the Western North Carolina Orchid Society and the North Carolina Arboretum, the flower show will be held from March 28-30. Activities at the event include lectures on exhibits about the flowers. Vendors will be selling exotic orchids from as far away as Ecuador. Admission is $5 for attendees 12 and older. Parking fees at the Arboretum apply.  

Blue Ridge Roller Derby Fundraiser – Straight out of the 1980’s, the Blue Ridge Roller Derby teams will be giving an exhibition from 1 – 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 at the Smoky Mountain Events Center in Waynesville. “Proceeds from this event will benefit families in the Haywood County area affected by Hurricane Helene,” communicate the event organizers. Tickets are $10, available online or at-the-door. Children 11 and under are free. 

Collaborative Art Night – Asheville’s Center for Spiritual Living is offering a collaborative art event at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28. Event organizers state, “No art experience? No problem! We’ll be creating a masterpiece together, passing canvases around and adding our unique touches. You will be amazed at what we can create as a community!” The joy of making can be shared for free at this event. 

ReString Appalachian Benefit Concert – Eda’s Hide-A-Way is hosting a fundraising event supporting ReString Appalachia, an effort to get instruments back in the hands of artists after Hurricane Helene. Scheduled performers include Darrin Bradbury, Dylan Walshe and Kevin Smith. The benefit concert is set for 8 p.m. on Friday, March 28. Donations will be accepted at the door. Organizers suggest giving $10-$20. 

Wine Walk Asheville – Wander Asheville with a guided tour of local businesses this Saturday. Take the third annual Wine Walk to benefit Manna Food Bank and Asheville’s struggling small businesses as you sip on the sweet juice. Plan for a tipsy jaunt from 2 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, beginning at Ella Asheville.
