A mum named her son after her favourite band - Mumford & Sons. Katrina Weynberg, 30, and husband Donald Weynberg, 32, are fans of the British folk-rock band and chose to name one of their twin boys after them. They say baby Mumford, now three, was named after the band as “he would only kick when we sang and played music”.
The couple named Mumford's twin brother Murphy after the Interstellar character. Katrina said: "It's one of our favourite films - we actually quoted one of the famous lines from the film in our wedding vows".
The family headed to a show on March 15 and Katrina managed to chat with Marcus Mumford and tell him about her son's name. Katrina, a teacher said: “We were first in line. My children were in line with me from 9am. The venue had the age limit as 18+ which wasn't specified, so they went home with husband.

“They did a stripped back acoustic set, just a cello, accordion, guitar and their vocals. I was able to show him the sign which said ‘We named our son Mumford’ when he was changing guitars. He approached me and took the passport from me. He came over to hand back the passport and was asking me old how old my son was and my name.
“He said thank you so much and gave me a handshake. They commented on the post and re-shared it on TikTok. It’s so lovely because we do have this huge space in our heart for the band. We were stoked that they’re touring, and we had the opportunity.
“The moment he took off his guitar to swap and he was reading the sign and realised, it was a bit infinite. It’s a moment you can’t describe because it’s so special”.
The couple welcomed twin boys Mumford and Murphy in December 2021 when Katrina was 33 weeks pregnant. She said: "Murphy was rolling around and kicking during my pregnancy. There was only placenta rather than two, so Mumford was tucked away.

"We actually call him Spaceman a little bit. The Killers have a song called 'Spaceman' so we refer to that. I was reflective of the pregnancy, and Mumford was only kicking to music. We had to name him something with musical roots and then we said it needs to match M for Murphy.
“There's no greater band we listen to than Mumford & Sons”.
The couple have lots of memories surrounding the band’s music all throughout their time together, including road trips around Australia after they were married where they constantly played their songs. “It’s the soundtrack to our life”, Katrina explained.
The couple also managed to get tickets to the band’s show at the Sydney Opera House on March 16. Katrina said: “We were standing there dancing at the show last night and I said, ‘this is why we named our son Mumford’. His name was chosen for him.
"It's like he arrived with his name, he sings and dances in the back of the car. He sings Mumford and Sons. When he runs in to our room to say good morning he even plucks my guitar."
