Kid Rock is currently on a small music tour and one journalist just gave his concert a scathing review.
Rock kicked off his tour on Friday in Omaha, Nebraska with Chris Janson and it was met with protestors opposing President Donald Trump, according to KMTV.
Rock played Target Center in Minneapolis the next evening, which is where Ross Raihala of the Twin Cities Pioneer Press attended and reviewed the show.
Raihala says Saturday was the sixth time he has seen Rock in concert and, in the past, he has had nothing but praise for the Detroit rocker’s shows.
He says things have changed, saying Rock wasn’t as fun as he used to be and came across as angry and distracted.
“To his credit, the 54-year-old remains limber as ever and did plenty of jumping and running around the stage. But gone was any of the old wink and smile he’d serve up on stage or those knowing glances that said he was in on the joke,” Raihala wrote.
He added that Rock looked distracted throughout show, and while fans were into his old hits like “Cowboy” and “All Summer Long,” his newer material fell flat.
Raihala says Rock’s voice has deepened and gotten raspier, which worked on some songs, but not all of them.
“He sounded particularly rough on his 2002 smash “Picture,” originally a duet with Sheryl Crow."
Raihala says the show “dragged on far too long” when Rock took turns at the turntables, drums and guitar while covering a series of songs like Ted Nugent’s “Cat Scratch Fever” and Stevie Wonder’s “Superstitious.”
And finally, Raihala says Rock’s encore opened with a clip of President Trump lavishing Kid Rock with praise and calling his band the most patriotic in the world.
“From there he launched into 2022’s “We the People,” a jaw droppingly awful collection of dusty MAGA grievances set to music. It was all so charmless and divisive, even Trump himself might tell Kid Rock to tone it down."
Rock is also bringing a two-day music festival to 10 small cities, including Hastings, MI (June 14), with Nickelback, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Travis Tritt, Big and Rich and more.
