As a result of an unprecedented pandemic, the “Un-Festival” will temporarily replace this year’s Bear Creek Folk Festival.

The Un-Festival is a combination of never-before-seen archival footage of earlier events, as well as new performances by past artists and other surprises.

Festival producer Sarah Card remains tight-lipped over the musical lineup, but hinted that some crowd favourites such as Michael Franti will be performing.

“He was a huge hit when we closed out the Sunday at our 2018 festival,” she said.

She says that after an unforeseen 2020, next year’s event will be “even that much more important to have as a community gathering.”

Since there’s no in-person event, organizers are using the Un-Festival as an opportunity to provide people with music and entertainment.

“There’s nothing that can replace being out on the hill amongst the community, there’s just a magic that happens,” Card said. “We’re able to bring the festival to some people that might not have been able to make it.”

This year marks the Bear Creek Folk Fest original fifth anniversary; however, regular celebrations take place next year.

Card is encouraging viewers to break out low-back chairs, their favourite beverage and enjoy the festivities from the safety of their home.

Un-Festival will live stream on various social media platforms on Aug. 15 at 7 p.m.
