The UK’s largest FREE celebration of African music and culture is set to return to Liverpool .

The Africa Oye Festival - which is celebrating its 25th anniversary festival - will take place in Sefton Park on Saturday June 17 and Sunday June 18.

It starts from 12.30pm until 9.30pm on both days and entrance is FREE for all.

Here’s how the musical line-up is looking for the this year’s two day festival.

Saturday June 17

Second day of Africa Oye in Sefton Park, Liverpool Katumba drummers perform

Oyé Introduces: Nutribe and Butcha B

Nutribe and Butcha B are local and are described as ‘da wickedest’ multi-disciplinary arts collective in the UK’. They create works of music, dance, photography and film.

They will perform recent projects and collaborations with city artists.

Daby Touré

The energetic Daby Toure, from Mauritania, is set to wow the audience with his love of songs and his guitar. He has a unique style and is well liked after previously performing in 2004 and 2009.

Bonga

Bonga’s soundtrack is intertwined with Angola’s struggle for independence and its civil war. It is now considered as ‘the voice’ of a modern, peaceful country.

The singer-songwriter will reveal a fascinating journey across different times and continents. He will also explore the symbol of Angolan national identity.

Mokoomba

Mokoomba, from Zimbabwe, are led by Mathias Muzaza and they combine localisms with global music which produces a lovely pan-African blend that everyone will enjoy.

Dobet Gnahoré

Dobet Gnahoré from Côte d’Ivoire is a Grammy award-winner who can sing in seven different languages.

She first appeared at this festival 12 years ago.

Her music ranges from delicate ballads to upbeat African Grooves and she showcases song, dance, percussion and theatre into her act.

Black Prophet

Black Prophet, from Ghana, will combine Jamaican reggae with African traditional percussion.

He is very thoughtful when it comes to putting meaning to his lyrics and his music is very smooth and easy to listen to.

The main stage DJ is DJ Edu.

Sunday June 18

Oyé Introduces: Anwar Ali and Dave Owen

Anwar’s style combines traditional Kenyan/Swahili with influences from from northern Europe.

He plays a Middle Eastern instrument called the oud.

He will sing upbeat songs from the Bajuni islands, which is off the coast of East Africa.

Dave is a seasoned guitar player who adds folk style harmony on his guitar and reflects the rhythms of the oud. He has been on the Liverpool scene for more than a decade.

Diabel Cissokho

Diabel Cissokho, from Senegal, first appeared at this festival in 2015 and has performed at Glastonbury, WOMAD and London’s Barbican.

He's toured across the globe with his family’s band Bannaya and also with renowned musicians Youssou N’Dour and Cheikh Lo.

Jupiter and Okwess International

Jupiter and Okwess International, from DR Congo, combine Congolese traditional music and western rock.

They love melodies and rhythms and have toured Africa for a decade.

Their talents led them to appear at Glastonbury and Africa Express.

HAJAmadagascar and The Groovy People

HAJAmadagascar and The Groovy People, from Madagascar, will entertain with trance-like and hypnotic beats and grooves.

They have previously performed at the festival in 2005 and in 2014.

Max Romeo

Max Romeo, from Jamaica, has performed all over the world following the success of hits such as Chase The Devil.

He has also landed top 10 hits in Europe and The Prodigy and Jay Z have sampled his songs.

His style is described as ‘roots reggae’ and he will close the festival’s 25th anniversary.

Max Romeo replaces Julian Marley on the bill, after the Reggae legend sadly had to cancel his European dates this year following a car accident.

All members of the family will enjoy Africa Oyé at Sefton Park on June 20-21

Dizzy Mandjeku and Odemba OK Allstars

Dizzy Mandjeku and Odemba OK Allstars, from DR Congo, are making their first appearance since 2007.

They are entertainers of the highest order and are sure to get everyone dancing.

The band will be accompanied by guitarist Mandjeku.

The main stage DJ is DJ Esa.
